Spain, 25 April 2025: ACCIONA Energía, a subsidiary of Acciona based in Madrid that specialises in the development, construction, operation, and management of clean energy projects, has made a major advancement in its electric mobility strategy with the acquisition of Cable Energía, the operator of the Shell Recharge network in Spain and Portugal outside of Shell’s service stations.
This acquisition expands ACCIONA Energía’s portfolio with an additional 396 charging points across the Iberian Peninsula. These chargers are strategically located in high-traffic areas, including restaurants, shopping centers, supermarkets, hotels, and major highways, enhancing the company's footprint in key locations.
In addition to the operational network, the acquisition includes a development pipeline of 321 charging points that are either under construction or awaiting grid connection, further strengthening ACCIONA Energía’s expansion in the EV sector.
With this move, ACCIONA Energía reinforces its commitment to expanding smart, renewable-powered EV infrastructure. The company first entered the electric vehicle charging market in late 2021 with the launch of a dedicated business unit, aligning with its broader strategy to offer comprehensive decarbonization solutions to its customers.
Currently, ACCIONA Energía provides access to over 4,000 charging points through a combination of owned and third-party infrastructure, covering urban centers and major intercity routes. The company is also building Madrid’s largest on-street charging hub and has secured agreements to roll out over 1,000 additional public chargers across Spain, positioning itself for strong continued growth in the EV mobility sector.
This strategic acquisition positions ACCIONA Energía as a key player in the electric mobility sector across Spain and Portugal. By expanding its network and reinforcing its commitment to renewable-powered infrastructure, the company is paving the way for a more sustainable and accessible future in electric transportation.
