Germany 15 August 2025: Volkswagen has reached a landmark in its electrification journey with the handover of its 1.5 millionth all-electric ID. vehicle. This milestone not only highlights the brand’s prominent role in the global EV sector but also reflects the growing success and momentum of the ID. family worldwide.

With a range of up to 606 kilometres, zero CO₂ emissions during operation, and energy efficiency as low as 14.5 kWh per 100 kilometres, the ID.7 Tourer Pro strengthens Volkswagen’s position at the forefront of sustainable mobility. Designed for both long-distance comfort and everyday practicality, the model combines advanced aerodynamics, spacious interiors, and cutting-edge digital features.

Starting with the ID.3 in 2020, Volkswagen has quickly broadened its EV range to include the ID.4 SUV, the sleek coupé-style ID.5, and the renowned ID. Buzz, along with the newest members of the lineup, the ID.7 and ID.7 Tourer. Notably, the Tourer has already become Germany’s most registered EV in the first half of 2025, underscoring the growing strength of the ID. family in Europe.

In an official press release by Volkswagen, Martin Sander, Board member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales Volkswagen, stated, “1.5 million ID. models delivered – this clearly shows that Volkswagen is a pioneer in the field of electromobility.

“Almost exactly five years ago, in September 2020, the first electric vehicles from Volkswagen’s all-electric ID. family was delivered. Volkswagen now tops the registration statistics in the electric segment not only in Germany but also in Europe. This confirms that our portfolio contains the vehicles our customers need. As a company, we are on the right path. Volkswagen remains a trailblazer in the ramp-up phase of electromobility.”

Volkswagen’s commitment to electrification is also reflected in its manufacturing strategy. The Emden plant, where the handover took place, has transformed worth more than one billion euros to become a facility dedicated exclusively to electric vehicles. It joins Zwickau and Dresden’s Gläserne Manufaktur as fully EV-focused sites in Germany, with additional production taking place in Hanover, Chattanooga in the USA, and in Foshan, Changsha, and Anting in China.

Minister President Olaf Lies praised the ID.7 as a symbol of Lower Saxony’s capacity for innovation, while Board Member Kai Grünitz highlighted the importance of the model in driving the state’s industrial transformation.

Despite strong performance in commercial registrations, Sander emphasized the need for clearer government policies and stronger incentives to encourage private buyers and reduce lingering skepticism. He argued that targeted support would further accelerate the ramp-up of electromobility across Europe.

Looking ahead, Volkswagen plans to expand its offering with affordable models designed to make electric mobility accessible to all. The compact ID.2all is set to debut in 2026 with a price under €25,000, and will be followed by the entry-level ID. EVERY1 in 2027 at around €20,000.

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, one of the world’s largest automakers, operates 28 production sites across 12 countries and delivered around 4.8 million vehicles in 2024. Backed by 170,000 employees and a product range that blends long-time favorites like the Polo, Golf, and Tiguan with the rapidly growing ID. family, Volkswagen is driving its strategy to lead the shift toward sustainable mobility.
