Ras Al Khaimah, UAE – July 14, 2025: In a move to accelerate global collaboration on sustainability, Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has entered into a formal partnership with the Comune di Chieti (Municipality of Chieti) Italy, aimed at promoting joint efforts in energy efficiency, clean mobility, and environmental innovation.

A Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed in Ras Al Khaimah between His Excellency Munther Mohammed bin Shekar, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, and Dr. Luigi Febo, President of Chieti’s City Council. The agreement lays the foundation for cooperation on sustainable development initiatives and mutual knowledge exchange.

This partnership will focus on several core areas, including optimising industrial energy use, expanding renewable energy deployment, advancing smart home technologies, and enhancing water efficiency. It also includes shared goals to cut emissions and improve sustainable urban mobility practices.

This collaboration reflects Ras Al Khaimah’s growing leadership in sustainability within the region and underscores its commitment to global partnerships that drive innovation and climate-conscious progress.

Munther Mohammed bin Shekar, Director General of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, stated, “Sustainability is a global challenge that requires local action and international collaboration. Our agreement with Comune di Chieti opens new avenues to exchange expertise, attract innovative companies to Ras Al Khaimah, and provide development opportunities for local industries. This cooperation supports our commitment to driving the energy transition in line with the vision of our leadership and Ras Al Khaimah’s Integrated Sustainability Strategy 2050.”

Luigi Febo, President of the City Council of Chieti, said: “The collaboration agreement between Chieti and Ras Al Khaimah Municipality is certainly an opportunity for both cities and their respective territories. Chieti is a city with a thousand-year history, with an important presence from a cultural point of view and an economy based on culture, industry, services and also training, thanks to the presence of the University Gabriele D’Annunzio, an important reference for the territory. I am sure that our identity can find in that of Ras Al Khaimah common points on which to create synergy and build important opportunities for growth and development for both.”

Launched in 2024, the RAK Integrated Sustainability (RIS) Strategy 2050 outlines a comprehensive vision for Ras Al Khaimah’s long-term sustainable development. The strategy focuses on strengthening energy resilience, safeguarding the environment, enhancing industrial competitiveness, and driving the emirate’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.

This strategic alliance between Ras Al Khaimah and Chieti marks a significant step toward advancing sustainable innovation through cross-border collaboration.
