Sweden, 27 August 2025: Volvo Cars has revealed the all-new XC70 SUV, the company’s first long-range plug-in hybrid and an important step in its global electrification strategy. First launched in China, the XC70 is planned for a European debut in the near future, underscoring Volvo’s commitment to advancing sustainable mobility in the region.
Delivering an all-electric driving range of more than 200km under the CLTC testing cycle – the longest of any Volvo plug-in hybrid to date, the XC70 is designed for customers who want to enjoy zero-emission driving in daily life while retaining the flexibility for longer journeys.
Final WLTP ratings for Europe will be disclosed ahead of market introduction. Underneath, the SUV rides on Volvo’s Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA), a platform tailored for advanced long-range plug-in hybrid models. It combines advanced electrification with Volvo’s world-renowned safety technologies and modern Scandinavian design principles.
In an official press release by Volvo Cars, Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars, stated,” The new XC70 is a very attractive choice for customers who want the benefits of electric driving but are not yet ready to go fully electric. It is a cornerstone of our electrified product portfolio, a bridge to fully electric cars for our customers, and it will strengthen our presence in the world’s largest car market.”
The XC70 supports fast charging up to 80% in just 23 minutes and offers bi-directional charging, enabling drivers to power devices such as camping or outdoor equipment directly from the vehicle. Combined with its efficient combustion engine, the SUV can cover more than 1,200km on a single charge and tank, making it equally capable for urban commutes and cross-continental road trips.
In design, the XC70 reflects Scandinavian simplicity with strength and confidence. A shield-inspired closed grille, adaptive aerodynamic shutters, and Volvo’s signature vertical taillights merge form with function, enhancing efficiency while delivering a modern, premium presence.
Inside, the XC70 offers a spacious, refined cabin crafted with high-quality materials and smart storage solutions. An immersive sound system, advanced acoustic engineering, and Volvo’s hallmark clean design create a calm driving environment. Large wheels, high ground clearance, and all-wheel drive capability ensure the SUV remains versatile across Europe’s varied terrains.
The XC70 features Volvo’s newest infotainment system with an AI-driven voice assistant, a 12.3-inch digital driver cluster, a wide 15.4-inch centre display, and an optional 92-inch AR head-up display.. Remote services such as cabin pre-conditioning and over-the-air software updates keep the XC70 always connected and future-ready.
As expected from Volvo, the XC70 debuts with the latest in Safe Space Technology. Using a network of radars, sensors, and cameras, the system continuously monitors the surroundings to help prevent or mitigate collisions. Features like door opening alerts for cyclists, automatic lane change assist, and Park Pilot Assist provide reassurance in both city and highway driving.
With the XC70, Volvo underlines its commitment to bridging today’s hybrid demand with tomorrow’s all-electric future. While first arriving in China, the model is set to become an important addition to Volvo’s electrified portfolio in Europe, offering both long electric range and the freedom of extended travel.
