March 1, 2025 – Europe’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure has reached a historic milestone, surpassing 1 million public charge points, according to a new report from LCP Delta. This marks a tenfold increase since 2018 and highlights the continent’s leadership in sustainable mobility.
Rapid Growth and Future Projections
The expansion of EV charging stations has been fueled by government incentives, rising EV sales, and significant private investment. The report predicts that Europe will double its charging infrastructure to 2 million charge points by 2029 and reach 3 million by 2032.
“Reaching 1 million public charge points is a defining moment for the EV charging industry and highlights Europe’s leadership in the shift to electric mobility,” said John Murray, Head of EVs at LCP Delta.
Leaders and Laggards
Here’s how key countries stack up:
Challenges Ahead
Despite the milestone, public charger use lags, largely due to pricing disparities. In the UK, home charging costs 7-10p per kWh, while public stations can hit 70p/kWh— a gap discouraging broader reliance. Murray warns, “The next five years could define the winners for decades,” as competition heats up and market consolidation looms.
For industry pros, this is a call to action: how can smarter pricing and infrastructure keep Europe’s EV revolution powered up?
