United Kingdom, 14 February 2025: Opcharge, EV charging company, in collaboration with its installation partner Rechrg, has joined forces with the Church of England to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure across its properties. This initiative aligns with the Church’s commitment to sustainability and its goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030.

As part of its broader environmental strategy, the Church of England is actively supporting local churches in developing action plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions annually. This effort contributes to the UK government’s ambitious goal of reaching net zero by 2050, positioning the Church as a leader in sustainable practices.

In an official press release by Opcharge, Rt Revd Dr Steven Croft, Bishop of Oxford, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The Church of England can play a key part in the journey to net zero through example and leadership, but this must be through actions as well as through our words. The installation of new EV chargers is another step on our journey towards net zero carbon emissions.”

In the press release, Thomas Herbert, Managing Director of Opcharge UK said, “At Opcharge we are passionate about the importance of having an accessible and convenient public charging network for everyone. As more consumers adopt electric vehicles, the demand for reliable and sustainable charging solutions will continue to grow. We are a company dedicated to promoting sustainability and innovation, and we believe that charge point operators play a key role in decarbonising the future of transportation within the UK at the rate required to reach our Net Zero goals. ”

By installing EV chargers across suitable Church of England premises, this partnership with Opcharge will help decarbonize transportation to and from church properties. Additionally, it aims to alleviate range anxiety for church staff and visitors who own EVs, supporting the transition to cleaner mobility solutions.

This partnership marks a significant step towards creating a more sustainable and accessible EV charging network across the UK. By integrating charging infrastructure into church properties, the initiative not only supports the Church’s commitment to net zero but also encourages wider EV adoption by providing convenient charging solutions for communities.
