Mercedes-Maybach Unveils Its First Electric Vehicle: The EQS 680 SUV

Apr 17, 2023, Shanghai: Mercedes-Maybach has announced the launch of its first electric vehicle, the EQS 680 SUV. This model is based on the Mercedes EQS SUV series which was launched in 2022, this electric vehicle boasts impressive features that cater to the luxurious tastes of high-end customers.

One of the standout features of the Maybach EQS SUV is its plush interior. The rear seats are as high-spec as the front seats, with heating, ventilation, and massage functions as standard all around. The car's First-Class Rear option includes two aeroplane-style seats and a sizable centre console with heated cupholders, a tablet for controlling the onboard rear entertainment, multiple USB-C plugs and HDMI inputs. Optional extras include folding tables, a fridge, and much more.

In an official press release, Ola Källeniu, Chairman of the Board of Management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said, "Mercedes-Maybach customers expect the extraordinary, and we aim to exceed their high expectations. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV unites our ambition to lead in digital and electric with our focus on the luxury segment. The very first all-electric vehicle from Mercedes-Maybach complements the best technologies from Mercedes-Benz with the extra comfort and individual details that are only available from Mercedes-Maybach."

In addition to its luxurious interior, the Maybach EQS SUV also offers an impressive range of up to 373 miles from its battery, which is expected to be at least as big as the standard EQS SUV's 120kWh option. It can charge from 10-80% in just 31 minutes with a maximum charging speed of 200kW. A quarter of an hour on a rapid charger will get you an extra 137 miles of range.

The car also boasts an impressive 649 bhp from twin e-motors front and rear, which enable a four-wheel drive, and a top speed of 130mph. The Maybach drive mode is specifically designed to ensure maximum comfort for the rear passengers, deploying the air suspension to its most comfortable effect.

All of this is wrapped in a predictably fancy exterior, with Maybach's signature two-tone paint and plenty of trickery to keep the sounds of the outside world to a minimum. Overall, the Maybach EQS SUV is an impressive vehicle that combines luxury, performance, and sustainability. While it may not be accessible to everyone, it certainly sets the standard for the future of electric vehicles in the luxury market.
