Seoul, May 6 2025: South Korean automaker Kia has reported a record-breaking performance in the European electric vehicle market during the first quarter of 2025, underscoring its accelerating shift toward sustainable mobility.
According to data released by the company on Tuesday, Kia sold 27,761 electric vehicles across Europe from January to March which is a 17% increase over its previous record set in the third quarter of 2023. The surge marks a significant achievement, with EVs now comprising over 20% of Kia’s total sales in the region for the first time.
The success was primarily driven by the popularity of the Kia EV3, a compact electric SUV that alone contributed 17,878 units, accounting for 64% of Kia’s total EV sales in Q1. The model has gained traction for its practicality, competitive pricing, and city-friendly size, helping Kia reach a broader base of eco-conscious consumers.
Kia’s performance reflects the growing demand for EVs in Europe, which has seen consistent year-over-year growth as consumers shift away from internal combustion engines in favor of cleaner alternatives. The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has also noted a continent-wide rise in EV adoption, indicating a strong market trend that Kia appears well-positioned to lead.
Looking ahead, Kia plans to strengthen its electric portfolio across the UK and Europe with the upcoming launch of EV4, EV5, and PV5 models later this year. These additions are expected to appeal to a range of customers from urban commuters to families and further broadening Kia’s market presence and meeting the EU’s tightening emissions regulations.
Kia has also continued to invest in EV infrastructure and digital services to improve the customer experience. Through enhanced over-the-air updates, smart charging features, and expanded dealer support for EV models, the company is aiming to deliver seamless ownership and service for electric vehicle users.
Kia’s record Q1 sales in Europe mark a milestone in the brand’s electrification journey, demonstrating both the strength of its current lineup and its commitment to future innovation. With new models and expanded EV support on the horizon, Kia is not just responding to the shift toward electric mobility but it’s helping drive it forward.
