Harley-Davidson launched its electric motorcycle on July 8 under the company’s new all-electric brand, LiveWire. The new motorcycle released under the refreshed badging is called LiveWire ONE and comes with a significantly lower price than Harley's first LiveWire product.
The original Harley-Davidson LiveWire was launched back in 2019. The LiveWire gained much attention because of its technology, performance, and modern exterior design, but it was let down due to its high price. Distinctly, the company has listed the motorcycle comparatively at a lower price tag of $21,999, when compared to the original, which was priced around $29,799.
The new LiveWire ONE motorcycle is identical to the original electric bike in terms of styling and specs but comes with advanced software and hardware, with the availability of more colours than before and it no longer carries the Harley Davidson logo.
Underneath the skin, the bike is powered by an electric motor paired with a 15.5kWh battery pack and returns a 235km claimed range on a single charge and a real-world range of up to 153km. It features the 78 kW (105 hp) electric motor with an electronically limited top speed of 110 mph (177 km/h). It is rated to achieve an accelerating timing of 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in mere 3.0-3.1 seconds. The bike comes with four multiple ride modes, Road, Rain, Range and Sport, with throttle response, power and regenerative braking optimised for each mode that can transform it to a breathtakingly quick machine.
The upcoming electric bike will carry forward all the specifications from the original LiveWire and probably add some more including a digital instrument console, a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) that constantly monitors direction changes of the LiveWire ONE, measures dynamic changes, powers the cornering-enhanced ABS and traction control systems.
On a conventional 110v home wall socket, the LiveWire ONE can be charged 100% in 11 hours while using a DC charger, a battery of LiveWire juices up from 0-100% in 60 minutes or 0-80% in 45 minutes.
Needless to state, the company is presently aiming to target a large set of young customers with a lower price tag. H-D’s CEO Jochen Zeitz said at the launch of LiveWire that “as part of The Hardwire Strategy, the company has made a commitment that Harley-Davidson would lead in electric transformation. We recognized the pioneering spirit and brand value in LiveWire for our community and took the decision to evolve the original LiveWire motorcycle into a dedicated EV brand. Today’s LiveWire ONE builds on the DNA of Harley-Davidson but with the electric focus and ambition of the new LiveWire brand. Harley-Davidson and LiveWire will continue to rewrite the motorcycle rulebook and we are excited about this next chapter in our legacy.”
The LiveWire ONE is undoubtedly going to be a bellwether bike designed to deliver high performance at affordable prices.
