United Kingdom, 5 March 2025: DHL Supply Chain, a global leader in logistics, has partnered with Cox Automotive, a pioneer in connected automotive services, to enhance in-life EV battery services for manufacturers and fleet operators.
This collaboration marks the launch of the UK’s largest-scale facility for EV battery repair, remanufacturing logistics, and storage. Located at DHL’s EV Centre of Excellence in Rugby, the new 35,000-square-foot facility is equipped to handle thousands of EV batteries annually. Designed to adhere to the latest government regulations and battery safety standards, the centre is set to redefine industry benchmarks for battery lifecycle management. To further its sustainability efforts, DHL has allocated over £800,000 towards a Battery Energy Storage System, enabling discharged EV batteries to reintegrate energy back into the site and the remanufacturing process.
By combining their expertise, DHL and Cox Automotive aim to bolster consumer confidence in EV battery technology, thereby accelerating EV adoption. Recent findings from Cox Automotive research indicate that 68% of UK drivers seek greater transparency regarding battery health, lifespan, and recycling, reinforcing the need for comprehensive and reliable battery services.
In an official press release by DHL Supply Chain, Paul Stone, MD Manufacturing Logistics, stated, “Handling, transporting and storing EV batteries is a complex process, presenting some unique challenges. We’ve been listening and working with the industry to create a more robust end-to-end solution for the EV batteries that effectively and reliably addresses challenges for manufacturers and fleets. Today, alongside Cox Automotive, we are setting the new standard for EV battery circularity and this cooperation represents a major step forward in creating a scalable circular economy for batteries in the UK.”
In the press release, Martin Forbes, President of Cox Automotive International, said, “As the automotive industry attempts to balance government mandates, consumer concerns about the durability of EVs, and a lack of technical expertise, the market requires tangible solutions and infrastructure to address barriers to EV adoption. With 35,000 square feet of dedicated battery repair space, we can deliver vital battery services to customers under one roof. In addition, this new facility provides our customers with a unique EV handling service as it complements our existing vehicle services location just 13 miles away in Bruntingthorpe.”
This expansion into Europe follows Cox Automotive’s global acquisition of Spiers New Technologies (SNT) in 2021. The acquisition included SNT’s operations in Ede, Netherlands, which will continue to play a crucial role in EV Battery Solutions’ European framework.
With this strategic move, DHL and Cox Automotive are reinforcing the UK’s EV infrastructure, ensuring a more sustainable, efficient, and scalable future for battery technology.
