Netherlands | 28 July 2025: Arriva Group, one of Europe’s leading providers of passenger transport services, has secured a €1.6 billion contract extension in the Netherlands, reaffirming its reputation for delivering high-quality, sustainable mobility solutions across the continent. Operating in 10 European countries, the UK-based operator is widely recognised for its innovation, customer focus, and commitment to decarbonisation.

The new 12.5-year agreement, awarded by the Province of Brabant, will enable Arriva to continue operating public bus services in East Brabant from December 2026. Secured through a competitive tender process, the contract reflects the province’s strong confidence in Arriva’s operational performance and long-standing service to the region.

Under the new deal, Arriva will increase service frequency by 15%, introduce more direct and faster routes, and enhance existing connections across the network. A major highlight of the contract is a significant investment in zero-emission technology, with 170 new electric buses set to replace the current diesel fleet, marking a decisive step forward in Arriva’s decarbonisation efforts and commitment to clean transport innovation.

In an official press release, by Arriva Group, Anne Hettinga, Managing Director for Arriva Netherlands and member of the Arriva Group Executive Committee, stated,” This new contract extension is another boost for Arriva’s ambitious long-term growth strategy. It reinforces our strong market position in the Netherlands and demonstrates continued trust from local Passenger Transport Authorities in our ability to deliver value for passengers.

“We’re excited to build on our existing bus services by rolling out cleaner and more comfortable vehicles and introducing new routes that meet the needs of the communities we serve.”

The East Brabant win comes shortly after Arriva began operations under a separate €900 million, 10-year contract for West Brabant earlier this month, solidifying the company’s momentum in the Dutch market. With established rail and bus networks across the country, these combined agreements strengthen Arriva’s strategic growth trajectory and reaffirm its presence in one of Europe’s most liberalised and innovation-driven transport sectors.

With this long-term commitment, Arriva not only cements its leadership in Dutch public transport but also sets a clear example of how UK-based operators can drive greener, smarter, and more connected mobility across Europe.
