26 Oct, 2023: Acwa Power, the largest global water desalination company, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in collaboration with Zenith Energy Terminals, GasLog and the Port of Amsterdam. This partnership aims to assess the feasibility of establishing a green hydrogen export corridor connecting Acwa Power's hydrogen production facilities worldwide with the Port of Amsterdam.

This memorandum of understanding (MoU) expands on a prior accord signed between Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands, with the goal of bolstering collaboration in diverse areas including clean hydrogen, marine transportation technologies, standards and certifications, and the creation of efficient international supply networks linking both nations.

This effort corresponds with the Dutch government's dedication to advancing green hydrogen, dedicating EUR9 billion for production and distribution by 2030. Zenith Energy Terminals, a pivotal contributor in the project, is constructing a publicly accessible liquid hydrogen import facility in Amsterdam, providing ACWA Power and other manufacturers entry to Dutch and European hydrogen markets.

GasLog, a prominent figure in global liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping services, is partnering with Zenith Energy Terminals to create specialised ships designed for the secure and efficient transportation of liquid hydrogen from ACWA Power's production locations to the Amsterdam port.

Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Acwa Power, Zenith Energy Terminals, and GasLog will collaborate on a comprehensive feasibility assessment to create a trading route for environmentally friendly liquefied hydrogen connecting Acwa Power's production facilities and the Amsterdam port. Depending on the study's findings, these parties may enter into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to outline their respective duties and engage with potential hydrogen buyers in the Amsterdam port area and its surrounding regions.

The global shift towards cleaner energy solutions has never been more critical, and this partnership exemplifies the dedication of industry leaders to explore innovative avenues for reducing carbon emissions. It also underscores the potential for cross-border cooperation in advancing green technologies, which not only promises a more sustainable future but also underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing our shared environmental challenges. The effort to create a Green Hydrogen Export Corridor is a clear demonstration of the commitment to pioneering solutions that can pave the way for a greener, more sustainable world.
