23 July, 2024: Automobile manufacturer Skoda has launched its latest updates to the Enyaq electric SUV series in the UK with the introduction of the Enyaq 50 and Enyaq 50 Edition models. These new additions replace the current entry-level Enyaq 60, offering a more budget-friendly choice for electric vehicle enthusiasts.

Starting from £36,970, the new Enyaq 50 models are approximately £2,000 cheaper than their predecessor. Despite the lower price, these vehicles maintain impressive specifications. Both variants are equipped with a 55 kWh battery (52 kWh usable), providing a range of up to 234 miles (377 km). This is slightly less than the outgoing Enyaq 60, which offers 249 miles (400 km) from its 58 kWh usable battery.

The Enyaq 50 and 50 Edition feature a rear-mounted electric drive, producing 170 PS and 310 Nm of torque. Although slightly lower than the Enyaq 60's 179 PS, performance remains competitive with acceleration from 0-62 mph in 9.1 seconds and a top speed of 99 mph, matching the capabilities of the Enyaq 60.

One standout improvement is in charging speed; the Enyaq 50 models boast a peak DC charging speed of 145 kW, significantly faster than the Enyaq 60's 120 kW. This enhancement reduces the DC charging time to 80% state of charge from 35 to 25 minutes, while AC charging remains consistent at 11 kW.

The Enyaq 50 Edition starts at £38,585 and offers additional features over the base model. It's important to note that these new models replace, rather than complement, the Enyaq 60 in the lineup. For those interested in higher-end options, Skoda continues to offer the Enyaq 85 Edition, Enyaq 85x Sportline Plus, Enyaq 85 L&K, and the top-tier Enyaq vRS. These models come equipped with a larger 82 kWh (77 kWh usable) battery pack, catering to drivers requiring extended range.

Skoda's decision underscores its commitment to enhancing accessibility to electric vehicles while advancing technology and performance across its EV range. By offering a more affordable entry point into the Enyaq line without significantly compromising on performance or range, Skoda is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the growing EV market.
