22 October, 2024: The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with King Salman International Airport (KSIA) to enhance the region's logistics and cargo profile. This partnership aims to leverage the strengths of both organisations in promoting and developing sustainable practices within the air cargo sector. The MoU focuses on several key areas, including promotion, training, innovation, and sustainability. By collaborating, TIACA and KSIA aim to elevate the visibility and impact of cargo and logistics not only in Saudi Arabia but also on a global scale. Joint efforts will highlight the significance of air cargo in improving quality of life for communities and businesses.

Training and capacity building are also central to the agreement, with TIACA connecting its extensive training programs to the local ecosystem. This initiative aims to enhance workforce capabilities and develop the next generation of logistics leaders. Additionally, both organisations will share best practices and emerging technologies to position the industry as a leader in innovation. Sustainability remains a critical focus, with plans to identify and promote eco-friendly practices within air cargo operations. This includes initiatives for decarbonization, waste reduction, and biodiversity protection.

Steven Polmans, Chair of TIACA, emphasised the importance of the MoU in the company press release, stating, “This signing of this MoU is important to the industry as it signals the strong support of the association’s mission not only to unite the industry but to set the vision for the air cargo industry, disseminate and enhance knowledge and promote and encourage business, social and technological innovation. We are excited to get to work with our colleagues at KSIA and appreciate their vision to further air cargo not only within their region but also globally.”

In the press release Marco Mejia, Acting CEO of the King Salman International Airport Development Company, highlighted the strategic significance of this partnership, stating, “This strategic membership marks a significant milestone for KSIA and its partners as they collectively strive to enhance Saudi Arabia's position as a global logistics powerhouse. KSIA remains dedicated to its mission of delivering a world-class airport, logistics, and cargo solutions; and fostering Saudi Arabia’s economic development.”
