Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – May 14, 2025 – The Transport General Authority (TGA) of Saudi Arabia and Uber Technologies have formalized a strategic partnership to introduce autonomous vehicle technology in the Kingdom, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s pursuit of innovative mobility solutions. The agreement, signed under the patronage of His Excellency Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and TGA Chairman, aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and the broader objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Dr. Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Acting President of TGA, and Dara Khosrowshahi, Chief Executive Officer of Uber, during a meeting in Riyadh on the sidelines of the Saudi-US Investment Forum.
This partnership aims to integrate autonomous vehicles into Saudi Arabia’s transportation ecosystem, with the first autonomous rides expected to launch on the Uber platform before the end of 2025. To prioritize safety during the initial phase, these vehicles will include onboard safety operators. The collaboration will utilise Uber’s extensive ridesharing network and engage autonomous vehicle technology providers to enhance consumer access to smart transportation solutions.
According to the official press release, Dr. Rumaih emphasized the partnership’s alignment with national priorities, stating, “This collaboration supports our efforts to enable smart transport technologies and achieve Vision 2030 objectives. By working with Uber, the TGA seeks to foster a regulatory environment that promotes innovation while upholding the highest standards of safety and service quality across the transport sector.”
The initiative is strategically designed to complement existing infrastructure and accelerate the delivery of seamless mobility solutions for residents and visitors alike.
