8th August 2023: Stanlow Terminals Ltd, the leading independent provider of bulk liquid storage in the UK, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global energy company Eni UK Ltd. This collaboration aims to investigate the potential for creating solutions related to the collection, transportation, and storage of carbon dioxide (CO2).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involves investigating initiatives situated at the Stanlow Terminal site, followed by transporting the captured CO2 to Eni UK's ongoing carbon transport and storage facilities in the United Kingdom’s North West region.

The goal is to eventually link numerous sources of emissions to Eni UK's authorised storage site using an open-access framework. This will streamline the process of securely storing significant amounts of CO2 in the future, the statement emphasised.

The growth of carbon dioxide (CO2) ship transportation will have a substantial impact on the expansion of carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure. This is because it offers practical and adaptable pathways connecting emission sources with storage locations. This infrastructure has the potential to extend the option to numerous industrial firms, enabling them to effectively move captured CO2 to be stored within exhausted gas fields.

The pact comes in the wake of Stanlow Terminal's announcement to establish inclusive green ammonia facilities along the River Mersey. This move aligns with Essar Energy Transition's goal to position itself as the foremost integrated energy transition hub in Europe.

This partnership underscores the commitment of both companies to exploring innovative solutions in the realm of carbon capture, transport, and storage. As the world strives to transition towards a more sustainable future, collaborations like these are essential in not only curbing greenhouse gas emissions but also fostering technological advancements that could revolutionise the energy sector. The collective impact of such initiatives will be felt on a global scale, reminding us that through strategic partnerships and unwavering dedication, we can pave the way for a greener and sustainable future for generations to come.
