October 14, 2024: Ras Al Khaimah is set to enhance its electric vehicle infrastructure with the installation of EV charging stations in key locations. This initiative aims to meet the rising demand for electric vehicles and promote sustainable transportation, contributing to a greener future for the emirate.
As a collaboration fully backed by the UAE government, UAEV partners with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Etihad Water and Electricity (Etihad WE). To address the rising interest in electric vehicles, the government is taking significant steps to support drivers. On September 24, it was also announced that Sharjah will establish charging stations for electric vehicles.
UAEV, the national company leading the first nationwide EV charging network, has partnered with the Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) to facilitate the installation and operation of these charging stations throughout the emirate. UAEV will handle all project components, including installation, maintenance, and data management technology, while RAKTA will provide site access and leverage existing infrastructure for seamless connectivity. The agreement was signed by Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, board member of UAEV, and Eng. Esmaeel Hasan Al Blooshi, Director-General of RAKTA.
These fast charging stations will be strategically placed in both commercial and residential areas. While the unification of charging rates has slightly increased the cost of owning an EV, it has not deterred consumer interest. Experts anticipate that demand for electric vehicles will continue to grow in the coming years.
In a publication by Khaleej Times, Eng Yousif Ahmed Al Ali stated, "We are fully committed to supporting the UAE's Net Zero Strategy and advancing sustainable mobility through a diverse range of projects and initiatives that target key sectors across the UAE. Our collaboration with RAKTA is set to significantly reduce emissions from the transportation sector, drive economic growth and safeguard the environment, while reinforcing the UAE's global leadership in sustainable mobility."
Eng. Al Ali stressed the importance of the agreement in promoting the adoption of electric vehicles by establishing advanced and accessible infrastructure to meet rising demand. This initiative empowers consumers to make environmentally responsible choices, promotes the use of eco-friendly technologies, and raises awareness about sustainable options.
Adding to that, Eng Al Blooshi remarked, “We at Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority are committed to enhancing cooperation with our strategic partners to advance national efforts aimed at achieving the UAE’s Climate Neutrality Strategy by 2050. Our agreement with the UAEV is an important step toward achieving this goal, as we work together to promote the transition to sustainable transportation, which supports the implementation of RAKTA’s Green Mobility Strategy 2023-2040.
This will enhance the use of sustainable transportation and support efforts to reduce carbon emissions, positively impacting the environment and contributing to building a more sustainable future for the coming generations."
By partnering with UAEV, RAKTA is enhancing electric vehicle infrastructure to meet growing demand and support the UAE's climate goals. This initiative will promote eco-friendly practices, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to a more sustainable future for the region.
