Saudi Arabia, 02 June 2025: NEOM Green Hydrogen Company has announced that its revolutionary green hydrogen project has reached 80% construction completion across all key sites, including the hydrogen production facility, wind garden, solar farm, and transmission grid.
Located in Oxagon, the advanced industrial hub of NEOM in Saudi Arabia, the plant is progressing steadily and remains on track. Major equipment such as wind turbines, hydrogen storage tanks, electrolysers, pipe racks, and the cold box is now arriving on site and being installed. The facility is expected to complete 4 gigawatts of solar and wind energy capacity by mid-2026, with commissioning of the electrolysers and initial production of green ammonia scheduled for 2027.
Once operational, the plant will produce up to 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen daily. This hydrogen will be converted into green ammonia, providing a clean, cost-effective fuel solution for the global transport and industrial sectors. The project is designed to help accelerate the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy on a global scale.
NEOM Green Hydrogen Company is a joint venture between ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM. The company has secured a long-term agreement with Air Products for the exclusive off-take of all green ammonia produced for 30 years. This partnership ensures a steady demand pipeline while advancing the commercial viability of large-scale green hydrogen production.
A significant component of the project is the development of a highly skilled local workforce. NGHC is actively recruiting top talent from across Saudi Arabia and beyond, while working with national educational and research institutions to train and prepare young Saudis for careers in green hydrogen and renewable energy technologies.
In May 2023, NGHC achieved financial close on a groundbreaking 8.4 billion US dollar deal, which included a 6.1 billion US dollar non-recourse loan backed by 23 financial institutions from Saudi Arabia, the region, and international markets. The financing reflects strong confidence in the project’s long-term potential and strategic importance.
This flagship initiative supports the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by driving economic diversification and establishing the Kingdom as a global leader in clean energy. As construction nears completion, the NEOM green hydrogen project is poised to redefine the global energy landscape and place Saudi Arabia at the forefront of the hydrogen economy.
