August 29, 2024: The Ras Al Khaimah Petroleum Authority and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance their collaboration in geology, mineral resources, and the energy sector. This agreement represents a major step forward in sustainable development, supporting the UAE’s Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050 and its ambitious net-zero emissions goals.

Signed by His Excellency Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, and His Excellency Christopher Wood, CEO of the Ras Al Khaimah Petroleum Authority, with His Excellency Eng. Saif Ghobash, Assistant Undersecretary for the Oil, Gas, and Mineral Resources Sector, present, the MoU aims to support the sustainable energy transition. Key activities include geological, geophysical, and hydrogeological surveys, research on natural hydrogen, carbon sequestration through mining, and evaluating geothermal energy potential in Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE.

The MoU reflects a mutual commitment to a low-carbon future, addressing the growing energy demand while pursuing shared goals in sustainable energy transformation. It outlines plans for joint technical and regulatory workshops and studies on emerging energy technologies.

His Excellency Eng. Sharif Al Olama stressed the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing cooperation between various government agencies to achieve national goals in the field of energy, especially clean energy, and to support the sustainable transformation in the energy sector, and that the partnership with the Ras Al Khaimah Petroleum Authority represents an important step towards achieving the UAE’s goals.
