29 July 2025: MG Motor UK is gearing up to broaden its electric vehicle range with the development of an all-new C-segment SUV. The new model, expected to be named the MG S6 EV, reinforces MG’s commitment to lead in the UK’s evolving electric SUV landscape.

The upcoming SUV is poised to make a strong entry into the competitive C-segment, set to rival well-established models such as the Volkswagen ID.4, Renault Scenic E-Tech, and Nissan Ariya. Positioned between the current S5 EV and the premium IM6, the new model is expected to offer a compelling balance of performance, space, and affordability. This addition reinforces MG’s commitment to expanding its footprint in Europe’s thriving electric vehicle market by addressing the growing demand for versatile, family-friendly electric SUVs.

Although technical specifications for the MG S6 EV have not been revealed, industry expectations suggest that it will inherit many characteristics from the MG S5 EV. The S5 EV currently features a 49-kilowatt-hour battery in its standard version, delivering a driving range of approximately 340 kilometres. For customers seeking an extended range, a larger battery option is available, offering up to 480 kilometres on a single charge. In terms of charging capability, the S5 EV supports DC fast charging at up to 120 kilowatts, enabling efficient recharging for daily and long-distance travel.

Performance-wise, the standard S5 EV produces 125 kilowatts of power and accelerates from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in around 8.0 seconds. Higher-tier versions boost output to 170 kilowatts, reducing the acceleration time to approximately 6.3 seconds. These specifications make it a well-rounded option in the compact SUV segment. The model currently retails in the United Kingdom starting at £28,495, making it an attractive choice for cost-conscious EV buyers.

The forthcoming MG S6 EV is expected to follow a similar technical and performance framework as the S5 EV but may offer incremental upgrades in space, features, and range. Design-wise, the S6 EV will likely reflect the styling cues of the S5 EV rather than the sleeker aesthetics of the IM series, signalling MG’s focus on practical design for mainstream adoption.

Earlier this year, SAIC Motor filed new vehicle designs in Europe, and the trademark application for the MG S6 EV name has also been recorded, offering the first solid indications of what the vehicle may look like. These filings suggest that MG is firmly committed to expanding its electric vehicle range, particularly in markets like the UK and Europe, where demand for electric crossovers and SUVs continues to surge.

Despite growing anticipation, MG Motor has not released a definitive timeline for the unveiling or commercial launch of the MG S6 EV. Market observers suggest that the vehicle is unlikely to arrive before 2027. However, the company’s recent activities in design registration and segment positioning indicate that development is well underway.

The MG S6 EV is expected to play a crucial role in the brand’s electrification roadmap, offering a balanced mix of performance, affordability, and everyday practicality to attract a broad range of consumers in the mid-size electric SUV category. With this move, MG aims to consolidate its reputation as a key player in the accessible electric mobility space while expanding its footprint across Europe’s rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
