17 Sep 2024: Maxus, a brand of the Chinese SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) Group, has unveiled the eTerron 9, marking a significant milestone as Europe’s first fully electric pickup with all-wheel drive as standard. This innovative vehicle is set to redefine the electric pickup segment, combining sustainability with robust performance.
The eTerron 9 is powered by two permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering a total output of 325 kW—125 kW at the front and 200 kW at the rear axle. Its energy comes from a 102 kWh high-voltage lithium iron phosphate battery, which can charge from 20% to 80% in about 40 minutes at fast-charging stations. The battery’s innovative Tetris construction method minimises space while enhancing capacity and safety.
Another key feature of the eTerron 9 is its advanced 9-channel ventilation system, which optimises battery temperature and ensures maximum performance in all conditions. The vehicle's heat management system also improves winter range by 10% compared to traditional electric cars, with a standard range of up to 430 kilometres per charge (WLTP combined).
In a notable advancement, the eTerron 9 includes a ‘Vehicle to Load’ (V2L) capability, allowing it to function as a mobile power source. With several 2.2 kW sockets in the front trunk and cargo area, as well as a 6.6 kW external connection, users can power tools, e-bikes, and camping equipment with ease. The 5.50-meter-long pickup offers a maximum payload of 620 kilograms and features a rear wall that can be lowered at the touch of a button to create a loading area of up to 2.40 metres, perfect for transporting longer items like surfboards or gardening supplies.
Additional highlights include a 236-litre front trunk for weatherproof storage and seating for two, ideal for breaks during camping trips. The eTerron 9 also boasts an impressive towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes, setting a record for all-electric pickups in its class.
As electric pickups remain a rarity in Europe, Maxus is positioning itself to lead the market, following Ford's introduction of the F-150 Lightning last year and Isuzu's upcoming D-MAX BEV next year. With the eTerron 9, Maxus aims to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle landscape.
