29 April, 2024: The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) has reached a significant milestone as it successfully completes the inaugural container shipment from Jubail Commercial Port to Riyadh Dry Port via the newly established railway system. This groundbreaking achievement, involving the transportation of 78 containers, highlights the effective utilization of the recently developed railway link, seamlessly connecting Jubail Commercial Port to the extensive East Railway network. It's worth noting that this railway network boasts an impressive maximum load capacity of 140 TEU per trip.
In a collaborative effort with the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (GAZT), Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), MAWANI has taken the lead in an initiative focused on optimizing container, bulk material, and general goods transportation. This strategic partnership aims to enhance connectivity between various ports, including Riyadh Dry Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, King Fahd Industrial Port in Jubail, Jubail Commercial Port, and Ras Al-Khair Port, with SAR networks playing a pivotal role in facilitating efficient transport routes.
Furthermore, MAWANI recently entered into a partnership with Saudi Arabia Railways, with the goal of establishing a unified framework and implementing a comprehensive organisational and legislative model for cargo transportation between MAWANI's ports through railway networks.
This initiative is expected to provide crucial logistical support to industrial and commercial ports across the Kingdom, ultimately boosting their competitiveness and streamlining trade activities. By offering safe and sustainable solutions that minimize harmful emissions and contribute to environmental preservation, it aims to not only enhance overall efficiency but also promote eco-friendly practices within the industry.
