We are delighted to present a Q&A session with Venkat B, the Head of Electric Vehicle (EV) at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). With over 20 years of experience spanning multiple industries, including Automotive, Energy, Transport, and Hi-Tech, Venkat has been instrumental in driving TCS's strategy, growth, and partnerships across the automotive and technology sectors. Holding a bachelor's degree in computer science from JNTU, Hyderabad, India, he leverages his deep expertise to bring the best of TCS capabilities to the rapidly evolving EV industry. In this insightful session, Venkat shares his perspectives on significant trends in the global EV market, the innovative use of emerging technologies by TCS, sustainability initiatives, and the future of the EV ecosystem.
#LEVS: What are the most significant trends you’re observing in the global EV market?
#Venkat B: I have been involved in the electric vehicle (EV) industry for eight years, and I would be pleased to share my insights regarding this field. There has been a notable rise in global electric vehicle (EV) sales, an expansion in the availability of charging stations, advancements in battery and energy storage technologies, a concerted effort to reduce EV prices, the introduction of a wider variety of models, a growing preference among consumers for EVs driven by environmental awareness, and an increasing commitment from both governments and businesses to attain carbon neutrality.
#LEVS: How is TCS leveraging emerging technologies like AI, IoT, and blockchain to enhance the EV ecosystem, and what specific innovations are you most excited about?
#Venkat B: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is actively exploring innovative strategies to facilitate digital transformation and maintain a competitive edge. The integration of Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) technologies has proven to be transformative within the electric vehicle (EV) sector. Especially the GenAI initiative for transforming the manufacturing ecosystem. Our team, comprising 30,000 engineers with a focus on IoT and digital engineering, brings a wealth of knowledge in CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electrification), leveraging TCS's five decades of experience in automotive engineering.
#LEVS: With the growing emphasis on sustainability, how is TCS contributing to reducing the environmental impact of EVs throughout their lifecycle?
#Venkat B: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has implemented a comprehensive sustainability strategy that emphasises environmental responsibility, aiming to minimise carbon emissions while supporting electric vehicle (EV) clients. TCS leverages technology and innovation to advance sustainable practices. One notable example is the Product Life Cycle Profiler, a tool designed to assist organisations in assessing the environmental impacts of their manufacturing processes. This tool enables companies to pinpoint opportunities for reducing carbon emissions and enhancing their sustainability efforts. Additionally, TCS actively engages with employees, suppliers, customers, and the broader community to foster environmental awareness and accountability.
#LEVS: What is your vision for the future of the EV industry, and how is TCS positioning itself to remain a leader in this rapidly evolving field over the next decade?
#Venkat B: We have partnered with numerous electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, dedicating ourselves to creating solutions that facilitate the transition to electrification for modern companies and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). We have developed the 'EVBox.' Our vision includes a wide range of capabilities across experiences, solutions, platforms, and innovations, all designed to assist our clients in achieving their EV goals.
#LEVS: How do you think events like the London EV Show benefit companies like TCS, and what specific opportunities do they present for innovation, networking, and strategic growth?
#Venkat B: We have actively engaged in numerous events to exchange our experiences and cultivate robust networks. We extend invitations to our partners, facilitate thought leadership discussions, and even establish booths while sponsoring several events. We would be pleased to participate in the London EV Show in the future, as it is an excellent exhibition.
