Contributing to the emerging EV infrastructure of India, Kia Motors has come up with the fastest EV charger in India installed at its Gurugram dealership Dhingra Kia, in Gurgaon. The fast charger boasts a capacity of 150kWh enabling it to charge an average electric vehicle in less than 2 hours. The company is also planning to install 15 similar superfast EV chargers across 12 cities in India by August this year. The company claims that this DC powered charger can take their EV model Kia EV6 from 10 to 80% in a span of just 42 minutes.
Kia India recently revealed their upcoming premium all electric EV6 for the Indian market. Based on Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) i.e. known for its long wheelbase, Kia EV6 is the first vehicle to adopt it. Globally, EV6 comes with two battery variants 58 kWh or 77.4 kWh. The latter option will be the only one available in the Indian market.
Speaking at the launch event, Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India said, “We started with the ambition of making EV ownership aspirational and launched our global best EV – the Kia EV6 in India, earlier this year. To take things further, we’re now incredibly excited to inaugurate the first DC fast charger with a 150 kW charging capacity, playing our role in India’s EV growth story.”
As far as the company’s future plans are concerned, apart from the EV6, Kia will be launching more EVs in India with a specific India-centric EV by 2025. The company also aims to install fast charging setups across all its dealerships in India to do their bit in contributing to the EV infrastructure of the country.
