Berlin, Germany | July 24, 2025: In a significant step toward decarbonising last-mile logistics, DHL Group has announced the expansion of its partnership with Ford Pro, securing an additional 2,400 electric vans for delivery by the end of 2025. These new EVs will join DHL’s parcel and postal operations across Germany, reinforcing the company’s leadership in sustainable urban logistics.

While the deal was just confirmed, the majority of the new vans are already operational, prompting DHL to release preliminary performance data. The company’s Post & Parcel Germany (P&P) division now operates 4,900 Ford electric vans. With the full rollout, DHL’s electric fleet is on track to surpass 35,000 vehicles, cementing its position as the largest e-delivery fleet in Germany. Earlier this year, DHL reported that half of its total delivery fleet had already transitioned to electric then total of 32,400 vehicles.

The new additions include two electric van models from Ford Pro. Leading the pack is the E-Transit, currently the best-selling electric van in Europe’s two-tonne segment. Designed for high-volume parcel deliveries, the E-Transit boasts an 18 cubic meter load capacity, enough to carry approximately 200 parcels per trip. It’s available with either a 68 kWh battery offering 315 km of range or an 89 kWh option capable of reaching up to 402 km.

In an official press release by DHL Group, Nikola Hagleitner, Board Member for Post & Parcel Germany at DHL Group, stated, "We are pleased about the further expansion of our proven collaboration with Ford in e-mobility. Ford is an important partner for us in our goal to further electrify the last mile of delivery. We are receiving very positive feedback from our delivery personnel regarding Ford's electric vehicles. Together, we are making a significant contribution to making parcel and postal delivery in Germany more sustainable."

In the same press release, Vogt, Director of Ford Pro for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, stated, "We are proud to support Deutsche Post and DHL in electrifying their fleet with Europe's most successful electric vans. This further expands our strategic partnership, which goes beyond just vehicle delivery. By providing not only our E-Transit models but also our Ford Pro ecosystem of smart software and service offerings, we increase the uptime and productivity of the DHL fleet.”

DHL is also set to roll out the more compact E-Transit Custom, a one-tonne electric van tailored for “combined deliveries” transporting both letters and lightweight parcels across suburban and rural routes. This smaller workhorse offers 6.8 cubic meters of cargo space and is powered by a 64 kWh battery, delivering an electric range of up to 328 kilometres on a single charge.

Beyond delivering the vehicles, Ford Pro is equipping DHL with a comprehensive suite of digital tools and services. These include connected e-telematics software and mobile maintenance support, enabling around 70% of routine servicing to be carried out directly at DHL depots. This holistic approach reportedly boosts vehicle uptime by as much as six hours per month, according to Ford.

As European cities push for cleaner air and logistics firms face rising pressure to decarbonise, the Ford-DHL partnership represents a scalable, real-world solution for sustainable last-mile delivery. With thousands of EVs already in service and a robust support system behind them, DHL and Ford Pro are setting a powerful example for the future of urban transport logistics.
