London, 30 April 2025 — The UK’s largest environmental match funding campaign has hit a historic milestone, raising a record-breaking £8.1 million during the 2025 edition of Big Give’s Green Match Fund. The total marks the campaign’s most successful year to date and covers the way for a bold new era in environmental fundraising.
Running from 22 to 29 April, the week-long campaign coincided with World Earth Day and supported 307 frontline environmental charities, including Surfers Against Sewage, Rewilding Britain, and Cool Earth Action. Donations from the public were doubled through match funding provided by philanthropic partners such as the Reed Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, AKO Foundation, OVO Foundation, and other individual donors.
This year’s campaign was formally launched with a special event at Wilton’s Music Hall in London, the oldest surviving music hall in the world, where Big Give unveiled a bold vision for 2026. As part of its evolution, the Green Match Fund will rebrand as "Earth Raise", signalling a new chapter in both scale and ambition for the UK’s environmental fundraising landscape.
Alongside the rebrand, Big Give announced plans to launch Earth Raise Live in April 2026, a landmark cultural event blending live music, art, and environmental activism. Described as a first-of-its-kind in the UK, Earth Raise Live aims to unite artists, comedians, musicians, and environmental leaders in an electrifying campaign to raise millions more for environmental causes while engaging millions more people across the country.
James Reed CBE, Chair of the Trustees at Big Give and CEO of REED, emphasised the growing urgency and momentum:
“Having smashed through the record-breaking £8 million mark, we have bold ambitions to make the campaign, under its new Earth Raise name, the single biggest environmental fundraising campaign on the planet for the planet.”
“Our goal is for Earth Raise Live to become the defining event for environmental fundraising, and we’re looking for partners who want to work with us to make that happen, particularly corporate sponsors.”
Since its inception in 2021, the Green Match Fund has raised over £23 million, with donations growing by approximately 50 percent year on year. This year’s campaign alone attracted over 36,000 donations, unlocking £3.8 million in match funds and showcasing the power of collective giving.
The campaign continues to work in partnership with the Environmental Funders Network, ensuring that support is directed to organisations making the greatest impact, from tackling climate change and promoting biodiversity to reducing waste and advancing sustainability.
Supporters across the philanthropic, cultural, and environmental sectors welcomed the campaign’s future direction.
Sam Sutaria, CEO of WaterBear, said:
“WaterBear exists to tell the stories that matter, and nothing matters more right now than protecting our planet. We’re thrilled to partner with Big Give on Earth Raise. It turns storytelling into tangible action.”
Philip King, Founder of Other Voices, added:
“Earth Raise Live is a rare and brilliant chance to bring artists, audiences, and activists together for a shared cause — our planet. We are proud to support this moment where creativity meets action.”
Nick Gardner, Executive Director of the Environmental Funders Network, reflected on the evolution of the campaign:
“With Earth Raise, Big Give is taking match funding to the next level, blending ambition, creativity, and serious funding power to help tackle the environmental challenges of our time.”
