Global cloud technology giant Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently announced their AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator for startups coming up in the built environment and infrastructure. Since, the domain of built environment is quite vast and is inclusive of real estate, manufacturing, transportation, daily utility services, the sector is highly energy sensitive and pollution centric. The aim of the program is to cater to the excessive usage of raw materials & natural resources and subsequently come up with solutions that make the overall infrastructure industry sustainable. The accelerator will also empower startups, industry leaders and other stakeholders to develop, ideate and boost such solutions in this direction.
This program will last for over six weeks and will be a virtual, technical, business, and mentorship accelerator. The program is expected to commence from November this year and last till mid-December. The accelerator program will expose upcoming companies and key players in the infrastructure domain to various technological frameworks disrupting the overall built environment like machine learning (ML) and high-performance computing (HPC).
In a official release from AWS, Jeffrey Kratz, General Manager, Worldwide Public Sector Channels & Alliances writes, “AWS customers, subject matter experts, and key community participants will engage directly with startups throughout the program by serving as advisors and mentors, focused on helping accelerate startups’ business growth and cloud capabilities, in order to drive the transition to sustainable cities and joint solutions to climate change. Startups are also eligible to receive assistance with go-to-market and business development planning.
Various startups participating in this program stand a chance to receive up to $100,000 in AWS computing credits through AWS Activate, that’ll enable them to test out the power of cloud systems and data operations. Apart from this opportunity, the companies selected for the program will also be connected with multiple AWS customers for a global exposure and will get a chance to assess & mitigate their current challenges along with understanding how they can play a role in coming up with tech enabled sustainable solutions.
