UK, 27 May 2025: Renault’s high-performance sub-brand Alpine has officially revealed its latest breakthrough: the A390, an all-electric “Sport Fastback” designed to merge the agility of a sports car with the everyday utility of an SUV. As Alpine’s second all-electric production model following the A290, the A390 marks a bold step into the future of performance EVs with a unique blend of power, range, and design.
Stretching 4.62 meters in length, the Alpine A390 rides on Renault’s AmpR Medium platform, typically reserved for front-wheel-drive electric vehicles, but reengineered here to support a more advanced and performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system. The standout feature is its tri-motor all-wheel-drive system, with one electric motor on the front axle and two on the rear. This setup enables Alpine’s proprietary Active Torque Vectoring System, which distributes torque intelligently between the rear wheels, enhancing cornering precision and overall handling.
The A390 draws its energy from an 89 kWh battery pack, developed by French battery specialist Verkor. Utilising high-nickel NMC chemistry, the battery delivers up to 555 kilometers of range and is engineered for consistent high-output performance even at lower charge levels. Advanced cooling and thermal management software ensure that the A390 remains track-ready, with preconditioning modes for both fast charging and high-performance driving.
Equipped with DC fast-charging capability of up to 190 kW, enabling rapid top-ups for extended journeys. Drivers can expect to gain two hours of highway range in under 20 minutes, while a 15–80% charge is projected to take just under 28 minutes. An 11 kW AC onboard charger is standard, with an optional 22 kW upgrade. The A390 is also future-proofed with bidirectional charging capabilities, supporting V2L and V2G, though the latter will depend on regional grid infrastructure.
Battery modules will be manufactured by Verkor in Dunkerque and assembled by Ampere in Douai, reinforcing Alpine’s commitment to French industry. Michelin has developed exclusive tyres for the model, and the audio system comes from the renowned French brand Devialet, ensuring a premium driving and listening experience.
In an official press release by ALPINE, Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, stated, "Someone once said that life begins at 70, and that could well be true for Alpine with the arrival of this second model in the Dream Garage, one of seven electric models expected by 2030. In 2025, the Alpine A390 reminds the world that the soul matters more than software. For a car lover like me, it's hard to imagine anything more exciting than reviving a legendary brand and projecting it into new territories, showing that the original recipe is more relevant than ever."
Although Alpine has branded it a “Sport Fastback,” its SUV-like proportions of 1.89 meters in width and over 1.53 meters tall align it with modern electric crossovers. The sleek, aerodynamic lines, sculpted bonnet, and other styling cues pay homage to Alpine’s iconic A110 sports car, while also drawing from the A390_β concept unveiled in 2023.
With the A390, Alpine isn’t simply expanding its electric lineup, as it's signalling a bold new era of performance EVs that blend track-born engineering with real-world practicality. Alpine blends technical prowess with national pride in the A390, uniting three-motor power, next-gen battery innovation, and French design into a singular electric crossover. With late 2025 pre-orders in sight, the world now turns to Dieppe to witness the next evolution of performance EVs.
